Seen a few of Alain Robbe Grillet's films, quite arty, some good, some a bit too bizarre.

Shichinin no Samurai

Mock all you want but I thought La Vitta e Bella was good film even if it gets sappy on repeat watching.

A fun one lately is The Raid.

Saw a great film the other day called The Hidden Face. You can't beat a good Spanish language Thriller.

Life is beautiful was a huge disappointment. Was expecting a great film and it was a load of crap.

"La Grande Bouffe" from 1973

"The film tells the story of four friends who gather in a villa for the weekend with the express purpose of eating themselves to death."

This is hilarious. Only the french could make this film.

As mentioned several times already, the answer is Life is Beautiful.

It's like a Carry On film set in a Nazi concentration camp.

Les Ripoux (Le Cop). A very funny film that the French like so much they've made two sequels. I've only seen it the once back in the eighties and have been trying to get a DVD of it ever since.

Re: What are your favouriie foreign language films
Lily, I used to think that, back in the 70s/early 80s? when they used to have one on on BBC2, after MoTD had just finished.

Unfortunately though, some of them really were about the tribulations of farmwork in rural Czechoslovakia. In 1953.

For three and a half hours.
